Allegations made by Pawan Khera (Chairman of the All India Congress Committee Media and Publicity Department) claim that Sarma's wife holds multiple active passports, which could violate Indian law prohibiting dual citizenship. Khera questioned the legitimacy of her passports from two Muslim countries, insinuating a connection to Sarma's political stance against Muslims. In response, Sarma asserted that the Dubai passport in question was confirmed as fake by both Dubai and Indian authorities, stating that the photograph on the passport does not belong to his wife. He mentioned that the Assam Police are investigating the matter further, with additional reports expected soon. Gogoi has called for an investigation into Sarma's properties, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding the allegations.
