In a tragic incident late Friday night, nine members of the Dargude family, including six children, lost their lives when their car fell into an open well in the Shivaji Nagar area of Dindori town, Nashik district, Maharashtra. The family was returning home after attending a function when the accident occurred. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences and announced an immediate safety audit of open wells in public areas. Preliminary reports suggest that the well had a low boundary wall and was located in a high-traffic area. State Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan visited the site and confirmed that the government would provide ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) in assistance to the victims' families. An inquiry into the incident has been ordered by the Nashik collector, and measures are being considered to prevent such tragedies in the future.
