The Puducherry Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026, are drawing attention due to high-profile candidates in two constituencies. In Thattanchavady, incumbent Chief Minister N Rangasamy of the All India NR Congress (AINRC) faces off against V Vaithilingam, a former Chief Minister and current Congress MP. Rangasamy has historically dominated this seat, having won it four times consecutively from 1991 to 2006 and reclaiming it in the 2021 elections with 12,978 votes. In contrast, Lawspet, a traditional Congress stronghold, will witness a new challenge from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Tamil superstar Vijay, as they field V Saminathan against Congress's M Vaithianathan, who won the seat in 2021 with 14,592 votes. The election will determine the fate of 30 MLAs, with results set to be declared on May 4.
