Anthropic, an AI startup, has appointed Eric Boyd, a former senior executive at Microsoft, to lead its infrastructure division. Boyd brings 16 years of experience from Microsoft, where he managed AI platform development and a team of 1,500. His expertise is expected to enhance Anthropic's capacity to meet the soaring demand for its AI tools, particularly Claude Code, which aims to improve coding efficiency. The company's revenue run rate has skyrocketed to over $30 billion, up from $9 billion in 2025, driven by strong interest in its offerings. To address challenges with service availability due to unprecedented demand, Anthropic is expanding its infrastructure capabilities. Recently, it secured a deal with chipmaker Broadcom for 3.5 gigawatts of computing power starting in 2027, while also committing $50 billion to enhance its computing infrastructure in the U.S., including new data centers in Texas and New York. In comparison, competitor OpenAI has announced plans to invest around $600 billion in AI infrastructure by 2030.
