Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Saturday that its newly deployed air defense system was responsible for downing two US F-15E fighter jets amid ongoing clashes with American and Israeli forces. The incidents occurred near Isfahan, Iran, where the aircraft were reportedly involved in a rescue operation for a missing crew member. The IRGC stated that the system would enable Iran to achieve 'full control' over its airspace. Reports suggest that the Third Khordad missile system, a mobile medium-range surface-to-air defense system, was likely used to target the F-15E Strike Eagle. The aircraft, valued at approximately $31 million, crashed in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, close to the Iraqi border. Both crew members ejected safely, with one rescued shortly after the incident and the other on Sunday. During the subsequent rescue mission, an A-10 Thunderbolt II was also struck, resulting in its crash after entering Kuwaiti airspace, though the pilot ejected safely. These incidents mark the first confirmed losses of US aircraft inside Iran since the conflict escalated on February 28, with the US military reportedly conducting strikes on over 12,300 targets during the war, significantly degrading Iran's missile and drone capabilities.
