The West Bengal assembly elections are set for April 23 and 29, 2026, with results to be counted on May 4. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is vying for a consecutive term against the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is focusing on issues such as corruption and governance. More than 7.3 crore voters will cast their votes using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across 294 constituencies. EVMs consist of two main components: the Ballot Unit, where voters select candidates, and the Control Unit, managed by polling officers. A Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) is also included, allowing voters to verify their votes through printed slips. After the voting process, EVMs are securely transported and stored, with mock polls conducted to ensure functionality. On counting day, votes are quickly counted and verified using VVPAT slips to maintain election integrity and transparency.
