The IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, the first international campus established by an Indian Institute of Technology, has opened applications for its undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the 2026 academic year. Interested candidates can find information on eligibility and deadlines at admissions.iitmz.ac.in. The screening test for the MTech program will take place on April 26, 2026, while the BS program test is scheduled for June 6, 2026. The application deadlines are April 30 for the BS program and April 15 for MTech courses. Currently, the campus hosts over 129 students, with 51% from Tanzania and others from countries like Ethiopia, Zambia, and Kenya. Prof. V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, expressed pride in establishing this campus and highlighted the strong support from the Zanzibar government. The campus recently welcomed Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal as the new director-in-charge and is preparing to welcome its first PhD scholars. The first MTech batch graduated last year with a 100% industrial placement rate, and students have secured internships with notable companies. The campus is also developing its permanent site at the Fumba peninsula, with a new hostel block inaugurated in January 2026.
