In Bokaro district, Jharkhand, India, the skeletal remains of an 18-year-old woman, who had been missing for eight months, were found near Chas College. Police identified and arrested Dinesh Kumar Mahto, who confessed to the murder after the victim pressured him to marry her. The investigation revealed that Mahto had taken the victim to a secluded area, where he stabbed her to death and concealed her body. The police recovered 19 bone fragments, strands of hair, the victim's clothes, and the murder weapon during the investigation. Following the victim's mother's complaint about her kidnapping, a case was registered at the Pindrajora police station. The case has since attracted judicial scrutiny, with the Jharkhand High Court questioning the police's handling of the investigation and the lack of action against police officials for alleged lapses.
