Jared Bednar, the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche, suffered facial fractures and a corneal abrasion after an errant puck struck him during a game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night. The incident occurred early in the third period when Knights winger Keegan Kolesar hit the puck, which then hit Bednar in the face. Avalanche players quickly reacted as Bednar hunched over in pain, and he was escorted to the locker room with a towel over his face. Following the injury, Bednar did not return to the bench, leaving assistant coaches Nolan Pratt and Dave Hakstol to lead the team. A report confirmed that Bednar was alert and conscious after the incident and was taken to a hospital for a CT scan. He is expected to make a full recovery without the need for surgery but will miss the final two games of the regular season against Edmonton and Calgary.
