In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police in Punjab, India, destroyed over 4 quintals (approximately 436 kilograms) of narcotics linked to 179 cases. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the police department’s Drug Disposal Committee, ensuring adherence to scientific procedures, including controlled incineration. The disposed narcotics included nearly 4 quintals and 50 kilograms of poppy husk from 18 cases, 12.677 kilograms of heroin from 113 cases, and around 18.8 kilograms of ganja from 20 cases. Additionally, 6,011 intoxicating tablets related to 19 cases were destroyed, along with other substances such as 700 grams of charas and 4.5 kilograms of green poppy plants. Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma stated that this exercise demonstrates the department’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and dismantling supply networks. He assured that the crackdown on drug traffickers would be intensified and that such disposal drives will be conducted regularly to maintain proper management of police storehouses.
