On Saturday, the Indian government implemented a significant hike in export duties, raising the rate on high-speed diesel from ₹21.5 per litre to ₹55.5 per litre and on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from ₹29.5 per litre to ₹42 per litre. This decision, made through five notifications by the Finance Ministry, aims to prevent exporters and refiners from taking advantage of the price discrepancies between domestic and international markets. Notably, the export duty on petrol remains unchanged at nil. This is the second adjustment in export duties in less than three weeks, following the initial imposition of lower duties in late March when international prices surged. Government officials have indicated that the export duty rates will be regularly reviewed, potentially every fortnight, in response to changing market conditions.
