Following a tragic incident in which a woman was killed by an uprooted tree during heavy rains, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to demolish nine civic quarters and 32 private wadas deemed unsafe. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram stated that these buildings, some constructed 50 to 60 years ago, pose a significant risk to residents, especially with the monsoon season approaching. The civic quarters, located in Wakdewadi, consist of three-story structures housing 288 residential flats. The PMC has issued notices to residents and will seek police assistance if they do not vacate the premises. While residents are requesting temporary housing within the same locality, the PMC is offering alternative accommodations in Warje and Hadapsar. Ram emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent potential disasters as the city braces for the monsoon rains.
