According to Careernet's report, women's participation in contractual and flexible roles within the IT and IT-enabled services sector has surged to 40% in FY26, marking a 10 percentage point increase from FY22. The report, based on an annual sample of 3,000 placements, indicates that the most preferred roles for women are in finance and accounting at 43%, followed by data science and analytics at 34%. Major metro areas such as Bengaluru (21%), Hyderabad (20%), and Pune (17%) are leading in women's participation, while tier II cities contribute 11%. The report also highlights that women's participation is strongest among early to mid-career professionals, particularly those with 5-8 years of experience (31%) and those with less than 2 years (30%). However, there is a noticeable decline in participation at senior levels, with only 13% of women having 9-14 years of experience and just 4% with over 14 years. Careernet's Chief Business Officer, Neelabh Shukla, emphasized that women's roles are increasingly central to business outcomes, particularly in finance and accounting.
