A shocking case of medical negligence has emerged from Akluj in Solapur district, Maharashtra, where a pregnant woman was incorrectly diagnosed as HIV-positive at a government-run Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) on August 16, 2024. Following the erroneous diagnosis, her husband and in-laws doubted her character, leading to her expulsion from the family home. Subsequent tests from various facilities, including SDH Solapur and Hindlabs, confirmed she was HIV-negative, with advanced assessments indicating 'RNA Not Detected'. The woman also reported being subjected to unnecessary medication that adversely affected her health. In response to the incident, District Surgeon Dr. Varsha Doiphode has formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the case and submit a report within 8 days. Dr. Doiphode emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that an HIV-positive diagnosis should not revert to negative. The case has sparked calls for accountability and compensation for the woman, with activists threatening protests outside the Chief Minister's office if justice is not swiftly delivered.
