In the March quarter of FY26, major consumer goods companies in India, such as Dabur India, Marico, and AWL Agri Business, reported a rebound in sales, largely attributed to the benefits of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rationalisation implemented in September 2022. Dabur and Marico both experienced high single-digit year-on-year volume growth, while AWL Agri Business saw a remarkable 17% increase in volumes for edible oils. Retailers like V-Mart Retail reported a 12% growth in same-store sales, and Avenue Supermarts, which operates DMart, posted a 19% sales increase compared to the previous year. Despite challenges in international markets due to geopolitical tensions, the domestic market showed resilience, supported by stable macroeconomic conditions. Companies anticipate continued growth in consumption, bolstered by GST cuts and tax relief for the middle class. The consumer goods sector, having navigated a volatile landscape marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and inflationary pressures, is optimistic about sustainable growth in FY27.
