In a tragic incident on Friday night, nine members of a family, including six children, lost their lives when their multi-utility vehicle (MUV) plunged into a 25-meter-deep well in Shivajinagar, Dindori town, Nashik district, Maharashtra. The victims were returning home after attending a get-together when the vehicle fell into the unprotected well, which lacked adequate safety barriers. The Nashik district collector, Ayush Prasad, stated that the well, located on private land, had a low cement wall that the driver likely missed in the dark. Emergency services took over two hours to recover the vehicle and the bodies, which were later declared dead at a government hospital. Two FIRs have been filed: one against the well owner, Rajendra Raje, for negligence, and another against the deceased driver, Sunil Dargode, for alleged reckless driving. Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh (roughly $6,000 USD) for each deceased family member, expressing condolences to the victims' families. Local officials are now investigating the well's safety compliance and have initiated actions to close it, as it was previously flagged by the civic body for its dangers.
