During a rally in Puducherry for the upcoming April 9 elections, Vijay, the chief of the Thamizhar Vazhvar Thamizhar Peravai (TVK) party, criticized the DMK-Congress alliance as confused and the NR Congress-BJP alliance as exhausted. He highlighted the failure of both national parties to grant statehood to Puducherry despite their long tenure in power. Vijay urged voters to support the TVK's whistle symbol, promising a commitment to securing full statehood legally, free from the interference of the Lieutenant Governor. He outlined several welfare initiatives, including Rs 25 lakh (approximately $30,000 USD) medical insurance for every family and 200 units of free electricity for families below the poverty line. Additionally, he pledged to conduct local body elections within six months of assuming power and announced the establishment of the Puducherry University of Applied Sciences and Arts to boost education in the region. Vijay emphasized the need for a secure and transparent administration to foster development in Puducherry.
