Residents of Sector 23A's economically weaker section colony in Gurugram, Haryana, India, have expressed their frustration over the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram's (MCG) neglect regarding waste management. They report that door-to-door garbage collection has been halted for six months, forcing them to dispose of waste in open areas. Local resident Gaurav Kumar highlighted the lack of maintenance, stating that they are compelled to carry their garbage to designated collection points, even after paying ₹100 (roughly $1.20 USD) a month to a private contractor for waste collection. Bhawani Shankar Tripathi, general secretary of the Sector 23A resident welfare association, noted that this situation exacerbates existing sanitation issues. In response, Councillor Rakesh Yadav acknowledged the waste collection challenges but refuted claims of irregular road sweeping, attributing the problem to workers leaving for elections in West Bengal. An MCG junior engineer stated that they would investigate the complaints and inspect the affected areas.
