On Friday, the Gujarat state government announced the launch of 'NARIT AI' (Narcotics Analysis & RAG-based Investigation Tool), making Gujarat Police the first in India to implement an AI-driven solution for narcotics investigations. This innovative tool provides real-time analytical support to officers, integrating legal frameworks, case laws, and investigative procedures to enhance the quality of investigations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Developed by the Western Railway police in Vadodara in collaboration with a Mumbai-based AI startup, 'NARIT AI' aims to address procedural compliance challenges that have historically led to acquittals despite strong evidence. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi emphasized the state's commitment to a 'zero tolerance' policy towards drug crimes, stating that the tool will empower all ranks of police staff to conduct thorough investigations. Superintendent of Police Abhay Soni noted that the application has been trained on historical cases to minimize errors and improve procedural accuracy, ultimately aiming to boost conviction rates in NDPS cases.
