Three weeks after the Puzhuthivakkam MRTS station opened in Chennai on March 14, 2023, local residents are facing significant accessibility challenges. Entry points along the interior roads connecting Saraswathy Nagar and Ram Nagar remain closed, forcing commuters to take a 1-kilometer detour from the main Inner Ring Road. K Bhaskar, president of the Saraswathy Nagar Residents Welfare Association, highlighted that opening these blocked entrances would reduce travel distance to just 450-500 meters for over 1,000 families in surrounding areas. Residents have expressed concerns about safety, citing the presence of antisocial elements near the unopened blocks, and have requested improvements in amenities, including a round-the-clock escalator facility. They are also advocating for enhanced last-mile connectivity and additional bus routes to ease commuting difficulties. An official from Southern Railway has acknowledged the issue and promised to expedite the opening of the closed shutters.
