In a recent development regarding the Class 8 NCERT textbook chapter on 'corruption in judiciary', three experts barred by the Supreme Court from future state roles have sought to present their case. The Supreme Court had previously directed the Centre and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to exclude Michel Danino, Suparna Diwakar, and Alok Prasanna Kumar from any curriculum-related roles following their involvement in the controversial chapter. Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, representing Alok Prasanna Kumar, argued that the chapter's content was intended to address challenges faced by the judiciary, legislature, and executive collectively. The court noted that the applications are not currently on record and instructed that the matter be revisited after procedural corrections. Additionally, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for a committee of domain experts to review not only the Class 8 chapter but all NCERT content. A compliance affidavit from a newly formed committee has been acknowledged, and NCERT has reconstituted a high-powered committee to oversee the national syllabus. This ongoing review highlights the importance of ensuring educational content is comprehensive and accurate.
