The Delhi Assembly has directed the finance and excise departments to provide an action taken report by January 31, 2024, in response to findings from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding liquor supply in the capital. The PAC's report, presented during the recent Budget Session, revealed significant financial losses totaling ₹890 crore due to the failure to re-tender surrendered liquor shop licenses under the excise policy for 2021-22. Additionally, a ₹144 crore loss was attributed to a waiver of license fees. The report, based on a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit, estimated the overall financial impact of irregularities at approximately ₹2,026.91 crore. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasized the need for timely action on the PAC's recommendations, which include the expedited implementation of the e-Abkari portal, enhanced monitoring systems, and a data-driven enforcement strategy to ensure transparency and efficiency in liquor regulation.
