Chanchal Kumar, a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Bihar, has been appointed as the Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. With decades of administrative experience, Kumar has been a key figure in Bihar's governance, notably serving as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar until January 2022. He has played a significant role in implementing policy decisions aimed at enhancing public administration and grievance redressal mechanisms. Following his tenure in Bihar, Kumar held various central government positions, including Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Most recently, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Kumar is recognized for his blend of technical expertise and administrative skills. His new role in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is crucial, as it involves overseeing media and information dissemination, and is anticipated to benefit from his extensive governance experience.
