The Indian government has announced a full customs duty exemption on a variety of critical petrochemical products until June 30, 2026. This temporary measure is designed to support domestic industries facing supply disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The Finance Ministry stated that the exemption aims to ensure the continued availability of essential petrochemical inputs, alleviate cost pressures on downstream sectors, and maintain supply stability in the country. Industries such as plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and automotive components are expected to benefit from reduced input costs. The exemption covers a broad range of petrochemical feedstocks, intermediates, polymers, and resins, including key chemicals like anhydrous ammonia, toluene, styrene, and methanol. The government believes this relief will have a cascading effect throughout the value chain, ultimately benefiting consumers of finished goods by stabilizing prices.
