The Upper Sileru Power House in Andhra Pradesh, which currently has a capacity of 240 MW, will be transformed by 2029 with the addition of a 1,350 MW pumped storage facility. This ambitious project will consist of nine reversible units, each capable of generating 150 MW. Pumped storage technology allows for the efficient management of energy by storing excess electricity generated from renewable sources and releasing it during peak demand. This transformation is essential for enhancing grid stability and integrating more renewable energy into the state's power network. The existing Upper Sileru facility has been operational for over 60 years, demonstrating reliability and consistent performance. It utilizes the Sileru River's water resources and has an annual energy generation potential of approximately 575 million units. The new pumped storage project is expected to significantly bolster Andhra Pradesh's energy infrastructure and support its shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
