Manager Martin O’Neill noted that Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand have shown significant improvement in their rehabilitation. Johnston has resumed full training, while Osmand is still working towards full fitness. O’Neill stated, 'We don’t want to rush people back, but if they are feeling good and want to have a bounce game, that would be ideal.' The friendly is expected to help Johnston prepare for the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against St Mirren. However, Osmand is not expected to return in time for that match. Additionally, O’Neill confirmed that both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers will not return until the start of next season due to their respective injuries. Reflecting on his own age, O’Neill expressed admiration for fellow manager Roy Hodgson, who has recently taken charge of Bristol City and achieved positive results.
