On the eve of elections in Assam, Suren Daimari, the Congress candidate for the Udalguri constituency, announced his withdrawal from the race, citing feelings of betrayal due to a lack of support from the party. The 73-year-old candidate expressed disappointment over the insufficient assistance he received during his campaign, including inadequate financial backing. Despite his announcement, an election official confirmed that Daimari's name will still appear on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), allowing voters the option to cast their votes for him. A Congress leader responded to Daimari's claims by stating that the party had not prioritized the Udalguri seat, which may have contributed to his dissatisfaction. Daimari joined the Congress in January 2023 with the intention of strengthening the party's presence in the constituency, which has struggled in recent years. The primary contest in Udalguri is now expected to be between candidates from the United People’s Party Liberal and the Bodoland People’s Front.
