On Saturday evening, 345 Indian fishermen arrived at Chennai airport after being evacuated from Iran through Armenia. This group represents the first organized transport of fishermen from the southern region of Iran to Armenia, facilitated by the Indian Missions in Tehran and Yerevan. Most of the fishermen are from Tamil Nadu, where over 1,000 Indian fishermen are currently employed. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for the support in this evacuation. Since the onset of conflict in the region on February 28, over 1,150 Indian nationals have left Iran via land border crossings into Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Indian government is actively assisting its citizens in Iran, providing visa support and facilitating border crossings to ensure their safe return home.
