Dibakar Gharami, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Sonamukhi constituency in Bankura district, West Bengal, has declared that a major political change is inevitable as the state approaches the assembly elections in April 2026. He criticized the current Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, claiming she misleads the public and has been complicit in allowing illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators to gain voter IDs and Aadhaar cards. Gharami emphasized that the people of Bengal are ready for a 'double-engine' government, suggesting a desire for BJP leadership alongside a BJP-led central government. Meanwhile, Bimal Gurung, the chief of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), has called for unity among BJP allies to ensure electoral success. The upcoming assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, with results announced on May 4, following a previous election where the TMC won 213 seats and the BJP secured 77 seats, marking a significant rise in their political presence.
