Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that India is pursuing preferential market access for its products in the United States, highlighting the strong strategic partnership between the two nations in technology, defense, trade, and investment. Goyal described India as being in a 'very sweet spot' for promoting trade, especially as it is the world's fastest-growing economy. On March 27, Goyal met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Yaounde, Cameroon, to discuss the next steps in the ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA). This agreement aims to reduce US tariffs on Indian goods to 18%. However, negotiations have faced delays due to changes in the US tariff structure following a Supreme Court ruling against previous tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump. The signing of the interim trade agreement will occur once the new global tariff architecture is established.
