The Kerala High Court has appointed V G Arun, a retired judge, as the chairperson of the High Power Committee responsible for implementing the Sabarimala Master Plan. This plan focuses on improving essential facilities for pilgrims while safeguarding the ecological integrity of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and the Western Ghats. Justice Arun stated that he has yet to receive official communication regarding his appointment and plans to review previous court orders before proceeding. The court emphasized that the new chairperson's role is crucial for the committee's effectiveness, especially after the death of former chairman Justice S Siri Jagan on January 24, 2026. The High Power Committee, which includes around 21 members, is tasked with addressing various aspects of the pilgrimage, such as traffic management, waste management, and healthcare infrastructure. Justice Arun will also be responsible for submitting bi-monthly status reports to the court and ensuring transparency in the use of public funds.
