UK drivers are being encouraged to seek the lowest petrol prices as they prepare for an expected 21.7 million journeys this Easter, the busiest in four years. The average price of unleaded petrol surged by 20p in March, from 132.83p to 152.83p per litre, attributed to rising oil prices due to the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. This marks the fastest monthly increase in petrol prices on record, surpassing the previous spike of 16.6p following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Simon Williams, head of policy at the motoring services company RAC, emphasized the importance of filling up as usual while searching for the best deals. To facilitate travel, National Highways plans to temporarily suspend 1,500 miles (approximately 2,400 km) of roadworks from Thursday to Easter Monday. Predictions indicate that traffic will peak on Thursday, coinciding with school holidays. However, some analysts suggest that families may reduce their travel distances and spending due to the increased fuel prices. Additionally, with train services disrupted, more people are expected to drive, while around 2 million UK residents are anticipated to travel abroad, with EasyJet preparing for its busiest Easter yet.
