On Monday night, NASA's Artemis II mission established an optical link with ground stations on Earth, successfully sending back high-resolution images of the Moon. These images, now available on the Johnson Space Center’s Flickr page, showcase stunning views of the lunar surface and the Earth during a solar eclipse. The spacecraft came within 4,067 miles (6,545 km) of the Moon, allowing astronauts to capture breathtaking moments, including both a rising and setting Earth. Mission Pilot Victor Glover noted the difficulty in photographing the incredible sights, stating, “What we’re seeing, we’re just not picking up on the cameras.” The images provide a glimpse into the future of lunar exploration, reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise photo from Apollo 8. The Artemis II mission is currently en route back to Earth, with a scheduled splashdown off the coast of California on Friday evening.
