The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has finalized a pilot project to introduce smart water meters aimed at enhancing billing accuracy for residents. The pilot will involve 230 residents from Suncity township in Sector 54 and 30 from Sushant Lok Phase 1. This initiative responds to concerns regarding conventional mechanical meters, which are often tampered with, leading to inaccurate billing. Pradeep Kumar, an executive engineer at MCG, stated that the project could lead to a 5-10% reduction in water bills, as residents will only pay for the water they actually use. The cost of the smart meters will be borne by MCG, with an estimated additional charge of ₹100 on monthly invoices. The project is expected to take three to four months to complete, with MCG collecting data on water supply to monitor flow effectively. Additionally, MCG officials have sought training in modern water management practices to support this initiative.
