Weber State University has officially appointed Kaleb Canales as the new head coach of its men's basketball team. Canales, who has an extensive coaching background, spent 15 years as an assistant coach in the NBA, including a notable tenure with the Portland Trail Blazers from 2008 to 2013. During this period, he served as the interim head coach in 2012 and worked alongside Damian Lillard, a Weber State legend and current general manager of the Wildcats' program. Canales has also contributed to teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Orlando Magic, and has experience coaching the Mexican national team. Most recently, he was the associate head coach at Troy, where he played a key role in leading the team to the NCAA tournament. He succeeds Eric Duft, who has transitioned to the role of President of Basketball Operations and Development after four seasons as head coach.
