Toyota has recalled 13,390 HiLux utes from the 2025-2026 model years due to a significant safety concern involving the electric power steering (EPS) system. The recall is specifically for vehicles equipped with a Toyota Genuine bull bar or nudge bar combined with a light bar, where an installation error has caused a misalignment of a ground terminal. This misalignment can lead to a sudden loss of power steering assistance while driving, making the vehicle much harder to steer without any prior warning signs. The recall affects various grades of the HiLux, including WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue, and Rugged X, manufactured between August 28, 2025, and February 24, 2026. Toyota is proactively contacting affected owners to schedule inspections at dealerships, where necessary repairs will be conducted free of charge. This recall follows another incident last month, where Toyota recalled over 11,000 LandCruiser 300 vehicles due to a separate transmission fault.
