In Malda district, West Bengal, a troubling trend has emerged as many households in the Sujapur and Mothabari constituencies find that only one or two family members remain on the electoral rolls. Following adjudication by judicial officers, it has been reported that nearly 50% of names have been deleted from the voter lists, causing widespread fear and uncertainty among residents. In Amlitala village, for instance, a booth that once had 707 electors now lists only around 400 after over 300 names were removed. Local residents, including Anwar Biswas, expressed their distress, noting that even long-time voters have been affected. To address this issue, local Trinamool Congress units are planning to set up camps to assist residents with the appeal process, especially for those who may struggle with literacy. The deletions have sparked a sense of urgency among citizens, as many prepare to approach tribunals to contest the decisions.
