In a tragic incident in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Debaraj Sarangi (62), a retired government employee, allegedly stabbed his wife, Priyambada Sarangi (55), to death during a domestic dispute. The altercation occurred shortly after breakfast at their home in Swastik Nagar. According to police reports, Sarangi became enraged when his wife tried to prevent him from leaving the house. Following a violent confrontation that involved physical assault and multiple stabbings with a kitchen knife, Priyambada succumbed to her injuries. After the attack, Debaraj collected ₹25,000 (approximately $300 USD) in cash and gold jewelry, which he handed over to their daughter at her residence in Patrapada without disclosing the crime. He later surrendered to the police and confessed to the murder. Authorities found the victim's body in a bedroom, along with a blood-stained knife and two mobile phones. Sarangi reportedly suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and liver cirrhosis, and had been experiencing mental stress prior to the incident. A murder case has been filed against him under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
