The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially removed Raghav Chadha from his role as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, appointing Ashok Mittal in his place. This decision highlights a rift between Chadha and the party leadership, particularly following his refusal to sign a notice for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his absence during significant party events. Sources indicate that Chadha's silence regarding AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal's legal issues and his lack of participation in a rally celebrating Kejriwal's court relief have not been well received. Mittal, who has been with AAP since its inception in 2012 and is considered close to Kejriwal, stated that leadership changes are a regular process and dismissed rumors of Chadha leaving the party. Chadha's distancing from the party has been apparent since March 2024, following Kejriwal's arrest, during which Chadha was abroad for surgery and did not engage with the party's activities. His previous influential roles included being a member of the Political Affairs Committee and an advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
