Residents of Raheja Heights in Malad East, Mumbai, are on high alert following a third leopard sighting within a month. The latest incident occurred around 3 am on Tuesday, captured by CCTV as the leopard roamed the parking lot. Previous sightings were reported on March 17 and 18. In response, forest officers have set a trap in the adjacent Sheela Raheja Public Park, using a goat as bait, while ensuring the animal remains unharmed. The park, which lacks proper lighting, is suspected to be a passage for the leopard, leading to increased safety concerns among the 1,000 residents. Security measures are being heightened, including restricting access to vulnerable areas and installing additional CCTV cameras. Local officials, including corporator Tulsiram Shinde and MLA Anil Parab, are set to meet with forest officers to develop a comprehensive safety plan. Residents are particularly worried about the safety of children and seniors, prompting calls for better management of the wildlife in the nearby Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where the leopard population is affected by human encroachment.
