On Monday, thousands of factory workers from Faridabad and Palwal districts in Haryana, India, staged protests demanding the implementation of a 35% increase in minimum wages announced by the state government. Approximately 3,500 workers from Faridabad's Sector-37 and 4,000 workers from Prithla in Palwal participated in the demonstrations, which included blocking the Agra-Delhi highway for two hours. The wage hike, effective from April 1, 2026, raises unskilled workers' wages from ₹11,274.60 to ₹15,220, while semi-skilled and skilled workers will see increases to ₹16,780.74 and ₹18,500.81, respectively. Despite the announcement made on April 8, many workers reported that their employers had not issued any notifications regarding the wage increase. Protests in the IMT Manesar area turned violent on April 9, resulting in injuries to at least 26 individuals, including police personnel, and over 60 arrests.
