Traffic was severely disrupted on National Highway-5 between Shimla and Kalka due to a landslide in the Dharampur area of Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, on Friday. The landslide occurred around 4 pm, blocking the only motorable lane and leading to long traffic jams on both sides. A team from the National Highway Authority of India was deployed to clear the debris. The Shimla meteorological office has forecasted more rainfall and thunderstorms for the weekend, with a warning for gusty winds reaching up to 30 km/h in districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla. Recent rainfall data shows Guler received the highest precipitation of 10.6 mm, followed by Jot with 10 mm. Additionally, landslides have been reported in the Summerhill and Kuftadhar areas of Shimla, where three houses are at risk due to hillside cutting for construction. Officials have ordered the construction work to halt and mandated the installation of a retaining wall.
