India and Bangladesh are taking significant steps to mend their frayed ties, with a focus on enhancing trade and energy cooperation. During a meeting in New Delhi, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman met with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other leaders, marking the first ministerial visit since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won the general election in February. The discussions aimed to address contentious issues, such as the extradition of former Bangladeshi leaders and the arrest of individuals linked to the killing of radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Both nations agreed to resume existing mechanisms to strengthen their relationship, including easing visa restrictions for Bangladeshi nationals, particularly for medical and business purposes. Rahman also expressed gratitude for India's recent diesel supply and requested an increase in energy supplies, which India is considering based on availability. The meetings signal a renewed commitment to cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries.
