The political scene in Gujarat's Dahod district has shifted significantly as several influential tribal leaders, including District Panchayat member Maheshbhai Machhar and former Sarpanch Jayantibhai, have defected from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the Congress party. The leaders voiced their frustration over the BJP's handling of tribal issues, particularly regarding corruption and marginalization. Maheshbhai Machhar stated, 'We are tired of the corruption practised by BJP ministers and the constant marginalisation of the tribal community.' This defection comes as Congress intensifies its political activities, launching a 'People's Manifesto' in Navsari. The manifesto, developed through extensive community consultations, aims to address local grievances related to infrastructure, health, and education. Congress leaders emphasized their commitment to truth, equality, and social justice, marking a departure from traditional top-down manifesto drafting. Key pledges include a 'Janata Audit' for road construction projects and initiatives to modernize municipal schools and establish health centers. By focusing on tribal representation and local governance, Congress seeks to strengthen its appeal among voters in Gujarat.
