The Haryana cabinet has approved a significant amendment to the Public Distribution System, reserving 33% of Fair Price Shop (FPS) licenses for women. This decision aims to promote inclusivity and enhance transparency within the system. Applicants must now have a minimum educational qualification of Class 12 and basic computer knowledge. The licensing process will be streamlined through the SARAL online platform, making it more efficient. Additionally, government employees and elected representatives will be ineligible for FPS licenses to avoid conflicts of interest. The amendments also specify that preference within the women's quota will be given to victims of acid attacks, self-help groups, widows, divorced women, and those from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC). Furthermore, the cabinet has amended regulations regarding passage through shamlat deh land for private projects, facilitating easier access for infrastructural developments.
