Ponguru Narayana, Andhra Pradesh's Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, criticized the former YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for imposing taxes on citizens for garbage collection while neglecting waste management. During a media briefing after visiting the Ramapuram dump yard near Tirupati, he revealed that the previous administration left behind garbage in 123 municipalities across the state. In the past year, the current government has successfully cleared 85 lakh tonnes of waste and aims to remove an additional 68 lakh tonnes in the next two months. Narayana emphasized the importance of waste-to-energy initiatives, announcing the launch of 10 such plants across Andhra Pradesh, which will help manage 7,000 tonnes of garbage daily and generate energy. He noted that the previous TDP regime had initiated similar projects in Visakhapatnam and Guntur, which are currently operational. Additionally, Narayana visited the Settipalle lands, recently cleared by the Tirupati Urban Development Authority, which will soon be available for registration by stakeholders.
