As the assembly elections approach, residents' welfare associations (RWAs) in Pallavaram and Tambaram constituencies in Chennai have submitted a charter of demands to candidates from various political parties. The charter highlights long-standing issues such as inadequate underground drainage systems and insufficient water supply. Despite Tambaram being declared a corporation five years ago, many areas like Selaiyur and Camp Road still rely on water lorries, with the current supply of 87 million litres per day falling short of the 130 million litres per day demand. Residents have also raised concerns about untreated water discharge affecting stormwater drains, which are now functioning as sewage carriers. Additionally, issues like flooding along GST Road and the need for solid waste management in panchayat areas have been emphasized. Local leaders are urging candidates to prioritize these civic issues and engage with the community regularly after elections.
