Alpesh Limbachiya, a corporator from Vadodara Municipal Corporation in Gujarat, India, has been welcomed back into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nearly three years after his suspension due to allegations of defaming former Mayor Nilesh Rathod through an anonymous letter. This letter, which surfaced in July 2023, accused Rathod of corruption and favoritism towards builders. Limbachiya's return comes just ahead of the civic elections scheduled for April 26, 2024, and follows a two-day assessment by the party regarding the popularity of its candidates. Jayprakash Soni, the President of the Vadodara city BJP unit, stated that Limbachiya had made multiple requests to return and assured the party of his disciplined conduct. His influence in his electoral ward is seen as a significant advantage for the BJP. Limbachiya remained a corporator in an independent capacity during his suspension and was previously the Ruling Party Leader in the civic body. His relatives were also arrested in connection with the defamation case but he did not comment on his reinstatement.
