Polling for the Koridang Assembly bypoll in Nagaland started on Thursday, with six candidates vying for the seat left vacant by the death of BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen on November 11 last year. The BJP has nominated Daochier I. Imchen, the deceased MLA's son, while the Congress has put forward T. Chalukumba Ao. Other candidates include I Abenjang from the National People's Party (NPP) and three Independents: Imchatoba Imchen, Imtiwapang, and Toshikaba. Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 4 pm, with 22,382 eligible voters, including 11,071 women. Security has been significantly tightened across the constituency due to a recent incident of election-related violence on April 5 and 6, which resulted in one death and damage to vehicles. Authorities have categorized 13 polling stations as vulnerable and 17 as critical, deploying additional security personnel to ensure a peaceful voting process. The counting of votes is set for May 4.
