On Thursday, unseasonal rains and hailstorms wreaked havoc on agricultural crops across Maharashtra, India, with significant damage reported in onion, mango, grape, and pomegranate yields. Farmers from the Marathwada, North Maharashtra, and Western Maharashtra regions were particularly affected. State Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne confirmed that the government is surveying the extent of the damage and will provide necessary assistance to farmers. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule assured that compensation would be granted after evaluating the losses. The Keshar mango yield, primarily found in Marathwada, is expected to decline due to the heavy rainfall. Farmers like Sanjay Desale from Nashik district reported that waterlogging has devastated his onion crop, leaving him with little hope for recovery. Another farmer, Kiran Thakre, noted that he may have to discard up to 40% of his stored onions due to the damage. Grape farmer Vilas Gangurde lamented that he would have to sell his remaining grapes at significantly reduced prices after already selling 70% of his harvest.
